Edible berries

Even at a young age, Ribes nigrum produces edible berries that are black in color.

The berries themselves have a relatively sour taste, but when processed into jam or juice, the flavors truly come to life. Blackcurrants naturally contain a high amount of vitamin C.

The berries serve as a crucial food source for birds, giving Ribes nigrum significant ecological value.

Blooming

Before the berries appear on the plant, the blackcurrant blooms with inconspicuous yellow flowers, attracting bees and butterflies.

Pruning

After harvesting the berries, it is advisable to prune the bush by cutting away the branches that have borne fruit, allowing young branches to bear fruit the following year.

Nutrient-rich soil
