Growth Form

Decaisnea fargesii, also known as the Blue Sausage Fruit tree, has a distinctive upright growth form.

This shrub can reach a height of 2 to 3 meters and has a spreading, bushy growth form.

Blooming Period

In late spring to early summer, Decaisnea fargesii adorns your garden with inconspicuous greenish flowers that appear in hanging clusters.

Although the flowers are modest, they mark the beginning of something unique.

Fruits

What makes Decaisnea fargesii truly special are the blue-green, cucumber-shaped fruits that appear in the fall.

These fruits are a real eye-catcher and provide an exotic appearance.

Leaves

The leaves of Decaisnea fargesii are compound and have a fresh green color during the growing season.

They create lush foliage that gives the tree an attractive appearance.

Autumn Color

In the fall, the leaves of Decaisnea fargesii undergo a transformation, turning into beautiful shades of yellow and orange, enhancing the visual impact of the Blue Sausage Fruit tree.

Location

This Blue Sausage Fruit tree thrives best in moist, well-draining soil and is suitable for sunny to semi-shady locations.

It is ideal for gardens with limited direct sunlight.

How to plant the tree?

  1. Determine the final location of the tree and ensure it is free from cables, debris, old plants, and other obstacles that may hinder the tree's growth.
  2. Dig a planting hole that is twice the width of the root ball. Loosen the soil at the bottom of the planting hole and mix the excavated soil with (organic) garden soil or planting substrate.
  3. Adjust the planting hole to the height where the root ball fits and firmly press the soil.
  4. Fill the planting hole with water and wait for it to settle. Check if the root ball is sufficiently moist.
  5. Place the tree or plant in the planting hole. It is extremely important that the tree is not planted too deep, as this can cause root rot.
  6. Insert a tree stake or bamboo stake firmly into the ground on the side of the tree where the most wind comes from.
  7. Now, place the watering ring or create a mound of soil around the tree so that water can seep into the ground.
