Flowering
Albizia julibrissin ‘Evy’s Pride’, also known as the brown-leaved Persian silk tree, is a striking ornamental tree with a unique flowering display.
In July and August, the Albizia produces eye-catching, fragrant pink flowers with long, silky stamens. The abundant bloom attracts bees and butterflies and gives the tree a distinctive, exotic appearance.
Foliage Colours
The finely divided foliage emerges in a warm reddish-brown shade and matures to a deep brownish-purple.
This rich leaf colour remains visible until autumn and provides a beautiful contrast against green plantings.
Growth Habit
Albizia ‘Evy’s Pride’ has a compact, umbrella-shaped growth habit with a broad, horizontal branching structure. This makes it ideal as a specimen tree or for locations with limited vertical space.
Height
The ultimate height of Albizia ‘Evy’s Pride’ is modest. After several years, it typically reaches a height and width of 3 to 5 metres.
Location
Albizia ‘Evy’s Pride’ prefers a sunny, warm location with well-drained, moderately dry soil. Excessively wet or poorly drained soil can lead to leaf drop and even root death.
A sheltered, sunny spot enhances both the growth and flowering of this Persian silk tree.
Hardiness
‘Evy’s Pride’ is hardy down to approximately –15 °C, making it more cold-resistant than most other Albizia varieties.
How to plant the tree?
1. Determine the final location of the tree and make sure it is free of cables, debris, old plants, and other things that could hinder the tree's growth.
2. Dig a planting hole that is twice as wide as the root ball. Loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole thoroughly and mix the excavated soil with (organic) garden soil or planting soil.
3. Adjust the depth of the planting hole so that the root ball fits perfectly, and press the soil down firmly.
4. Fill the planting hole with water and wait for it to fully drain. Check if the root ball is sufficiently moist.
5. Place the tree or plant into the planting hole. It is extremely important that the tree is not planted too deep, as this could cause the roots to rot.
6. Insert a sturdy tree stake or bamboo stick into the ground on the side from which the strongest wind comes.
7. Create a watering ring or form a small mound of soil around the tree to allow water to seep into the ground around it.
